FFL Transfers
Bought a firearm online or from a private party out of state? We'll receive it and handle the transfer. Here's exactly how it works.
Our transfer fees
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Standard firearm transfer | $40 per firearm |
| Additional firearms, same shipment | $10 each |
| NFA item transfer (Form 4) | $0 if purchased from us, $100 if purchased elsewhere — see our NFA Process page |
Fees are payable at pickup and are non-refundable once the transfer has been attempted, including if your background check is denied.
Before anything ships
- Contact us first. Call or text 480-359-4197 or email sales@odellarms.com and let us know a package is coming. We’re an appointment-only location — if we don’t know it’s coming, we may not be here to receive it.
- Have the seller request our FFL. The sending dealer can request a copy of our license by emailing sales@odellarms.com. We’ll send it directly to them — we can’t send it to you to forward.
- Make sure your name is on the package. Ask the sender to include your full name on the shipping label or packing slip. Unlabeled packages are difficult to match to a buyer and will delay your pickup.
When it arrives
If you’ve let us know a package is coming, we’ll contact you the same day it arrives to schedule pickup. Because we operate by appointment, please don’t stop by without scheduling first.
At pickup, bring
- Valid government-issued photo ID with your current address. If your ID address is out of date, bring supporting documentation showing your current Arizona address.
- Your Arizona CCW permit, if you have one. Permits issued within the last five years may qualify as a NICS alternative — bring it and we’ll check. Don’t assume it exempts you until we’ve verified it. (ATF permit chart)
- Payment for the transfer fee.
You’ll complete ATF Form 4473 on site and we’ll run a background check through NICS. Most come back immediately.
If your background check is delayed or denied
Federal law prohibits us from releasing a firearm to anyone whose check comes back denied. If that happens:
- The firearm stays in our possession. We cannot return it to you.
- You may have it shipped back to the sender, or transferred to another FFL, at your expense.
- The transfer fee is not refunded.
- You have the right to appeal a denial directly with the FBI (FBI NICS). We can point you to the process, but we’re not able to appeal on your behalf or tell you why a check was denied — we don’t receive that information.
Delayed is different from denied. A delay means the FBI needs more time. We’ll hold your firearm and contact you as soon as we have a result.
Storage
We’ll hold your firearm at no charge as long as a pickup appointment has been scheduled. If no arrangements are made, storage accrues at $10/week from the date of receipt. Before we treat any firearm as abandoned we will attempt to contact you at the phone number and email on file. Disposal follows applicable federal and Arizona law.
We reserve the right to refuse
We may decline any transfer at our discretion. If we decline before the firearm ships, there’s no charge. If we decline after receipt, we’ll work with you to return it to the sender at your cost.
